Checklist & tasks

Everything to do before the wedding, in the right order

Wedding planning usually starts about 11 months ahead with the budget and the venue. The main vendors come next, invitations go out about two months before, and the last few weeks are for confirmations and details. Bridely suggests these tasks with due dates counted back from your wedding date, and brings them all closer in the same proportion when you have less time.

How the checklist works in Bridely

  1. Set your wedding date

Due dates are counted back from it. If the date changes, suggested tasks that are still open move with it, and finished ones stay as they are.

  2. Choose what fits

Suggestions are grouped into before the wedding, the day itself and afterwards. Tick only what you want, and nothing is added until you confirm. Anything you have already done, such as setting the budget, is marked as done.

  3. Add your own tasks

Each one can have a due date, a priority, tags and a person in charge. Comments, @mentions and attached files keep the details with the task.

  4. Tick fewer things off by hand

When you book the photographer, the photographer task is ticked off. When you mark a payment as paid, its task is too. The dashboard shows which stage you are in and what has fallen behind.

  5. Ask for help on WhatsApp

Pick a few tasks for your mum or your godparents and send them a link. They can change the status, leave a comment or add a file, with no account needed.

How the due dates are set

Each suggested task has its own place relative to the wedding. The first ones, the budget and booking the venue, sit about 11 months before. The last ones are the day before. Then come the wedding day and a few things afterwards, such as thank-you messages and collecting the photos.

With less than 11 months to go, Bridely doesn’t pile everything into this week. It brings every due date closer to the wedding in the same proportion. With about five and a half months left, a task that normally sits nine months before lands about four and a half months before, and one from a month before lands about two weeks before. If a due date would fall today or earlier, it is set a week from today.

The month-by-month list on this page uses the same suggestions and the same timing. Print it and cross out what doesn’t apply to you. Inside Bridely, the dates follow your own wedding.

What can’t wait, and what can

Favours, the playlist, the emergency kit and the overnight bag can wait. They matter too, but they belong in the last few weeks.

  • The venue and the date come first, and usually together. Popular Saturdays go early, and the venue often decides the date for you.
  • The photographer, videographer and music follow right after, because the ones in demand book up early.
  • Choose your godparents early. They stand beside you at the ceremony and often have a say in a lot of decisions.
  • Ask the church and the registry office about times as soon as you have a date. Their schedules are fixed, and Saturday slots fill up quickly.
  • For the civil ceremony, the marriage declaration is usually filed at the town hall at least 10 days before. The premarital medical certificate is only valid for a short time, usually 14 days. Your town hall will give you the exact list of documents.
  • Send invitations about two months before and ask for replies three to four weeks before the wedding. That leaves time for the final headcount and the seating plan.

Planning in less time

Three or four months can be enough for a lovely wedding if you make decisions quickly. Book the venue, the photographer and the music in the same week, and send digital invitations as soon as the date is set.

Keep the list short. Remove what doesn’t suit your wedding, such as dance lessons, a photo booth or a trash-the-dress shoot, and focus on the things with fixed dates: the ceremonies, the venue, the documents and the invitations. The Bridely dashboard puts anything left over from earlier stages at the top, most urgent first.

Questions about the wedding checklist

When should we start planning the wedding?

Ideally 11 to 12 months before, which is where Bridely’s first suggestions start, with the budget and the venue. Less time works too, it just gets busier. With about six months left, the same steps come at roughly half their usual distance from the wedding.

What happens if we change the wedding date?

Suggested tasks that are still open move with the wedding and keep the same distance from it, so a task three months before stays three months before. Finished tasks don’t change, and tasks you added yourselves keep the dates you gave them.

Do we have to use all the suggested tasks?

No. A new wedding starts with an empty list. You choose which suggestions to add, you can edit or delete any of them, and you can add your own. A deleted suggestion can be added again later.

Can my mum or our godparents help with tasks?

Yes. Choose the tasks and the person, and Bridely opens WhatsApp with the message and link ready. You press Send. They see their tasks, change the status, comment and attach files without creating an account. You can switch the link off at any time.

Is there a printable wedding checklist?

Yes. The month-by-month list on this page can be printed and uses the same suggestions as the app. Inside Bridely, the due dates follow your own wedding date and how much time you have left.

I’m a wedding planner. Can I use my own checklist?

Yes. Keep your own task templates, choose which ones are added automatically to every new client wedding, and bring in the others when you need them. Each wedding gets its own copy, so editing a template never changes weddings that already have it.
